Anyone know of a group for parents who are dealing w a child w mental illness? Preferably close to DC or close in nova- Alex, Arlington etc

OP - From all the postings here and on related boards, it might be a group to suggest to the Women's Center that they try offering even if just for Moms since many families struggle with aspects of mental health conditions even related to ADHD in children of all ages. However, dealing with a teen is particularly challenging because besides supporting them and trying to figure out what is going on, there is also the "ticking clock" of both knowing a DS or DD may be soon be on one's own in a college setting or at age 18 that a parent can suddenly be "closed out" of what is going on which only complicates matters in trying to support. |

love NAMI family support groups. Also love their "Family to Family" course - really great for leearning about all the issues related to MI.
If you are dealing with bipolar, I strongly recommend the listserv run by BPSO.org. Lots of email, so use a separate account, but the ability to hear so many different ways BP presents and the issues in relationships with a BPSO -- well it's a uniquely valuable resource. |
