Boundary for Bethesda ES and Chevy Chase ES

Anonymous
I was looking online at the boundary map and see that it says "Bethesda ES/Chevy Chase ES" in the same area?
Does anyone know why? We're interested in Ch Ch ES

Thanks!

The boundary for CCES is basically wisconsin ave. to Rock Creek Park, EW HWY on the North and the District line on the south, although, south of the country club, the western half of Grafton and similar streets is districted to Somerset. All kids in this area attend Rosemary Hills from K-2nd and then go to Chevy Chase Elem.

If you are looking at the area between Rock Creek and 16th Street, N. of EW Hwy., those streets are variously districted to Rosemary Hills for k-2nd, and then on to one of three elementary schools -- Bethesda, North Chevy Chase or Chevy Chase depending on which street you live on. In only the smallest sliver of that area -- apartments near 16th Street (I think it's the Barrington Apartments and some or all of the Summit Hills apartments) -- do kids go on to Chevy Chase after Rosemary Hills. Otherwise you have to live in the much more expensive area in my first paragraph.

Please look at boundary maps and call the school to make absolutely certain that a particular house you're looking at is in the school area you want.

Actually PP, there's an area in there - between the park and 16th street that is districted for Rock Creek Forest Elementary. I don't know the exact boundaries - just that the people in the more expensive part of CC jump over Rock Creek Forest and get to send their kids to Rosemary Hills, which is considered to be a much better school...

Is this where you were looking?

You can plug in specific addresses and get results. But do check with the school board or school, too.

How do you "jump over" to another school? I thought the transfer rules were pretty strict. BTW my child will be going to RCF in 3 years and I am really hoping he gets into the Spanish program but the lottery is usually over 100 students for about 20 spaces.

By jump over I meant that people west of the park get to send their kids to Rosemary Hills even though Rock Creek Forest Elementary is closer to them. If you look at the map that was sited above the boundaries are kinda wacky.

You can also look here for boundary maps. I find it easiest to see by elementary school. The poster above who noted about Rock Creek Forest boundaries between Rock Creek and 16th Street is correct.
