If so, any advice on the best neighborhoods in the resort to stay at? Any other tips and advice?
My kids are 5 years and 6 months old, by the way. |
yeah, we enjoyed it - I'd try and stay at one of the condos ON the beach if you can swing it. Much easier to get to and from the beach that way. The other neighborhoods are nice, but the walk (or waiting for the shuttle) was kind of a pain in the end. It was really nice to have so many amenities (full kitchen, pool, tv, etc) and it was also nice being around so many other parents and kids....of course, my husband and I often joke that we used to thumb our noses at the "mer-people" (as we jokingly refer to people who stay at Sea Colony). Now we are all grown up and right in the mix with them.
But for what it's worth, we like it and always enjoy staying there. |
PP, did you spend most of your time hanging out on the beach? If we aren't planning on living at the beach the entire time, is it still worth it to be close by because of the other amenities on the beach? |
We always stay in the oceanfront highrise buildings too. Definitely worth the convenience - you can go to the beach for a short time, then go to the pool or inside to rest. There are swing sets on the beach too. We like to walk on the oceanfront promenade on our pre-breakfast walk or after dinner too. The shop in Edgewater sells sprinkled donuts that my kids miss the rest of the year - they are highly popular. |
We stay in the oceanfront condos as well. With little ones, you won't be on the beach for long periods, so it's nice to be able to come and go throughout the day --- which you can easily do if you are staying in a condo. To cut down your costs, stay in a one bedroom. We did when we had an infant and an older toddler. Try to get a one bedroom with two double beds -- and bring a pack n play. We stayed in a nice one bdrm with that set up in the Annapolis bldg (7th floor I think). We rented through Tansey Warner. Lately we've been renting a 2 bdrm in Chesapeake. |
OP here.
If you stay further from the beach, is there parking at the beach? I'm looking at some townhomes across Route 1 -- they SAY they are walking distance to the beach, but they're not right ON the beach. Anyone stayed there? |
I would estimate a good 3 blocks between Route 1 and the ocean in Bethany Beach. Assuming there is beach access there, which isn't always the case. I know my 5 year old would whine the whole walk to the beach, which would be hard for me to deal with, especially with a bag of stuff, baby, chairs, towels and sand toys. |
I agree with 12:54. I would not count on walking to the beach with a small child - it's way too far if you're staying in the townhomes, IMO. I know this because we also stayed in a townhouse that was advertised as being within walking distance of the beach. This was not a huge deal for us bc it turns out DC doesn't care much for the rough ocean, and none of us were into sitting in the sand that long. We ended up enjoying the other amenities at Sea Colony, like playgrounds and pools. Also, Bethany was a great midpoint for us to explore the whole area - from Assateague to Lewes. I would say that if you really want to spend a good amount of time at the beach and you have small kids, pick the Sea Colony condos over the Sea Colony townhomes. |
