What color would you paint your kitchen cabinets

Anonymous
I moved into a new house and I'm hitting the kitchen in Dec. meanwhile there are gross 1980s oak cabinets. I'm going to paint them because I know they're going in 6 months.

So-of you could have kitchen cabinets of any color what would you pick?

I wouldn't bother if they are going in six months.

OP here-- I don't mind sanding, priming, painting, and poly coating. I've always wanted colored kitchen cabinets. Nows my chance. I don't have the guts to install red or blue cabinets for real. I'll just be installing boring white or grey.

I'm leaning towards yellow, orange, or red. Thoughts?

Palest green. But then I'd want a wild, marble dark green backsplash / counter top.

I LOVE an orange kitchen - that's what I'd go for if you're leaning red/orange/yellow.

Yep. It's fun and the colored cabinets will make me smile.

Fun! But the marble is not in the budget-just paint. Great idea though.

Oak has grain. Sand it well and get BM advance paint. No need for primer. If you don't redo them you might hate them- try Ivory Tusk-very pale cream -hint of yellow.

White-ish

Oak is a bitch to paint. I normally just stain it darker because painting it is such a hassle with the grain.

Painting cabinets is a huge amount of work. And hard to look good. Instead I recommend General Finishes gel stain, you don't even need to remove cabinet doors, sand, or prime. Just use black and go right over the oak. Add new hardware if necessary.
