Elementary School-Aged Kids
|
My son, who just turned 5, has been acting up in his pre-K class, which he attends full-time. It sounds to me like he's overly rambunctious and doesn't always listen when the teacher or other kids tell him to stop. He does listen sometimes, and he's a smart kid. Any advice? So far we've been keeping in close touch with his teacher and giving him consequences at home if he misbehaves.
Thanks! Eve |

Does he listen to you at home consistently? Does he appear to struggle with impusle control generally? If it were my kid, I'd ask for a parent/teacher conference. I'd want to know to what degree his behavior is unusual or particularly disruptive as opposed to just challenging. What do they think you should be doing? I have a friend who's an occupational therapist so I'd be quick to have him evaluated for sensory intgration issues or muscle tone issues that may be impacting his behavior if the teachers suggested there could be this type of issue contributing.
This could also just be a very poorly managed classroom. Does the teacher have the skills to manage active 4 yearolds all day? Are they getting enough time to move around or is too much "listening time" being expected? |
