babylist registry is very confusing

Anonymous
I'm a gift giver and find this website to be downright confusing. You mark that you'll buy the gift, then go buy it, then go back to the website and say it's been purchased....??? Doesn't the mother end up getting lots of duplicate gifts from people who can't figure this out?

Why not just do an amazon and target registry?

Or can someone explain how to buy a gift from the site? Thanks!

I'm trying to use it for the second time. Is it like the new trendy thing? It's so annoying - why can't people just stick to the tried and true stores?

Because you can add things from lots of places including etsy etc. if you don't like it just get ideas from it and buy whatever and you can always email the mom to be saying you bought whatever and to take it off the list.

You can add things from anywhere to an Amazon registry too

Someone I know used this. Really confusing and almost nothing was purchased.

I started with this because it sounded like such a great idea, but then realized you get no benefits from registering with them and it is really confusing for gift buyers. Amazon allows you to add items from outside sites, plus you get a 15% completion discount if you are a prime member (10% if not).

I started with Babylist then switched to Amazon. I really wanted the Amazon completion discount.

I've purchased off babylist for a shower and it wasn't a big deal.

Babies R Us annoys me the most. Why can't I add comments next to items? My inlaws live in a very, very small town and pretty much nothing is available in their tiny babies r us. I'm not particular about what kind of mittens baby gets or what color bath tub it is...

OP here. I know I'm going to forget all the steps. I'm sure she'll get doubles because I'll forget to mark it down!

?? It's not that hard. I understand people being confused and not knowing that they have to go back to mark it purchased, but you do. You've posted about it twice already. So write yourself a sticky note and just do it.

I had a registry at Buy Buy Baby and a smaller one on BabyList. Overall it worked ok- I liked being able to add things from sites like Etsy (and at the time wasn't aware you could do that on Amazon). Plus there were a few things that weren't really available on Amazon except through obvious re-sellers that jacked up the price, so it was nice to be able to add info from other retailers like Target or the company directly. The older generation seemed kind of confused but mostly stuck to Buy Buy Baby anyway. My tech savvy cousins and other friends shopped off the BabyList registry, I think the only person who didn't mark the items off was my best friend who still uses an AOL email and never checks it, lol.

In retrospect I probably would have done Amazon instead but I don't think that's the end all be all either. I ended up opening a private Amazon registry to get the completion discount and the discount definitely was not available for many of the items.

Agreed, I don't get why it's so popular. It didn't exist when I had my first three years ago and I just had two registries -- Amazon (where I added a few non-Amazon things) and BuyBuy Baby. No one had any problems. Meanwhile, everyone I know that has used Baby List has ended up with multiple duplicates off their registry. I just used it to buy a gift and was super annoyed with all the email spamming and having to go back and check that I bought something, etc... Amazon is much better PLUS you get the completion discount.

Agreed and I'm a FTM - it was way too confusing for me! I saw the potential problems after trying to sort out my registry. I just stuck with Amazon, where I can add anything, and BuyBuyBaby.
