So I am feeling motivated to declutter my life. I have lots of stuff that I would like to give away that's not really worth much (rather than trash), but not sure how to go about doing it. For instance, lots of paperback books, a large collection of VHS movies, numerous candles, misc. baby/kid items - you get the idea.
Any thoughts? |

Others have already said freecycle but i will attest to the wonder of it. We have spent the last 6 months decluttering as part of a renovation and have freecycled tons of stuff. I am always amazed at what people are willing to pick up via freecycle. We have been judicious and only listed items that i thought were worthwhile someone driving over to pick up. It has ranged from a large entertainment unit to kids toys (in good condition) to a (nice) shower curtain. Usually we have multiple requests within 10 minutes of putting up a posting. Easiest stuff are things you can leave outside for "porch pickup". Furniture items we have had to coordinate times on. And everytime we have gotten a thank you email from the person picking up. Best is that you know someone is really going to use the item.
The rest of the stuff we give to goodwill or salvation army or purple heart or one of these organizations that calls about pick ups. We have also called salvation army for special pickups if we had a lot of stuff. |
