Ambien in third trimester?

Anonymous
I'm having a really hard time sleeping and Unisom isn't cutting it. I asked my OB if I could take Ambien and she said "occasionally". Of course now that I'm thinking about it, I'm getting nervous to take it. Has anyone else taken an Ambien in the third tri and the baby was ok?

There is no way in hell that I would take ambien while pregnant.

Back in 08 when I was pregnant my OB actually prescribed me ambien for occasional use. Basically to get one good nights sleep to right myself.

I believe it is a class C drug.

It's class C. Just learned that last week at my appt with a sleep Doctor. No way I'd take it. Sorry. I'm an insomniac also and am desperate for relief.

I guess to clarify I should say I wouldn't be taking a full dose- it's actually called Intermezzo- it's 1.75 mg of Ambien (vs the 5mg or 10 mg dose) and it's sublingual. Still nervous though but I'm getting desperate for one good night's sleep. I have the Unisom sleep gels, which is the same medicine as Benadryl and Tylenol PM. I guess I could try the other Unisom, the sleep tabs, which is a different med...

My doc was fine with it once or twice a week in the late third tri.

22:58 how many weeks were you when you took it? Were there any effects on the baby?

I'm pretty sure my sister took it. Full term (2 days before due date) healthy almost 7 year old.

No effects on baby. I took it for the last five weeks or so. They will even give it to you in the hospital if you get induced at night.

My doctor also said it's ok.

my High Risk doc gave it to me when I was on hospital bedrest for preterm labor in third tri

They gave it to me in the hospital the night before my induction.

I took it daily through both of my pregnancies. My kids are now 5 and 7 and have no issues.

Requesting 5mg today @ OB. I'm almost 38 weeks, I have got to get some sleep before c-section! Tried Magnesium for 2 months, it's giving me no relief at this point.

Yes, try the sleep tabs! I was never able to sleep with benadryl (it actually amps me up) but the sleep tabs work amazingly well. Only half a tab and I'm out cold all night. It's worth a shot.
