Hiring Managers: Ever review benefits, start dates w/someone you weren't sure you wanted to hire?

Anonymous
Had an interview last week. Was told I would hear back from them by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Still haven't heard anything. I NEED this job and am getting anxious with each passing hour. During the interview, I was told about benefits, start date and how the first week would look. So am I reading too much into this? I was pretty confident heading out of the meeting, now I am not so sure. Do you discuss healthcare plans, retirement, telework, etc, with someone you aren't sure you are going to hire? This is for a social services position.

I have learned from experience that these discussions mean nothing.

It's a good sign, but never a guarantee

Different field but yes, we do this with all interviewees. Have to treat them all the same.

During the interview means nothing. It's probably standard process.
