| I'd like to head to Duck or Corolla for the first time, and I'm interested in staying in a hotel on the beach. Taking my 11 and 13 year old. Planning for a Monday through Friday. My question: possible to stay in a nice hotel for $200 a night? I want to be within walking distance of the beach and have the amenities of a hotel (maid service) but more than $200 a night seems high. Anyone have experience with this? |
| No. |
| We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Corrolla right on the beach. It was a few years ago..in the 200 range but can't exactly remember. Worked well for our family. |
| In my visits there, Corolla and Duck seem much more house-based, than hotel/motel. Also, I think they tend to be more expensive than say, Kill Devil Hills or some places more south. You might be able to find a house on the bay-side for close to that amount. |
+1 we stayed here once too. It was great! |
| That area is almost entirely rental houses, but there's a few hotels. I think your price is a stretch. You're going to need to check Trip Advisor or some other travel website to get a list and do your research on cost. |
Only two options are the Hampton Inn and Sanderling Inn. You aren't going to get Sanderling at $200/night and in season I doubt you will get the Hampton for $200/night either. For hotels midweek you will have better luck in Kitty Hawk, KDH or Nags Head. It will be easier to find a Monday thru Thursday, a lot of hotels want the rooms for Thursday- Sunday premium rates. Don't expect anything special base to mid tier hotels at best. Your best bets if you can get in are Hilton Garden Inn, Hammocks on The Banks, Ramada. |
Very helpful - looking at both of those right now. |
| Op here. With all this feedback, I'm tempted now to change course and look at a house rental on or near the beach - anyone have an idea how to find a good place at this late stage? |
|
Google Corolla beach rentals and checkout the specials sections of the various rental companies. This late you may not find anything available the week you wanted to go, but you'll find something. It may be sound side or a long walk to the beach.
You may be better off looking at Nags Head, or south of there such as Avon or Rodanthe. Next year book just after Christmas. |
| I think Corolla Light has a hotel--stayed there 9 years ago so maybe not anymore. |
| Outerbeaches.com is a good realtor to use. |
Some realtors will run a special the day after Thanksgiving (5% off or something like that) which may not sound like much, but when you think about it, booking a house for the summer that will run in the 4K range (if you want one of the bigger ones), 5% is a big chunk of change to get off. |
Yes - it's still there! http://www.innatcorolla.com Also check out Colony by the Sea and Georgetown Sands in Duck, which are condo/townhouse communities. You can also rent a condo in the Currituck Club in Corolla. Good luck OP and have fun in the OBX! |
| We were able to get a great last minutes house through Southern Shores realty. We've also rented through Twiddy in the past. |
