Any idea why Janney's principal is leaving?

My DD will be attending Janney next year. I like the feel of the school but don't know much about it that is not available publicly or on the tour. Just read that the principal is leaving. Is something amiss there?

Dr. Crews came from MoCo and is leaving DCPS after only a year. My guess (but it's only a guess) is that her issues were systemic rather than school-specific. Her letter of resignation didn't give any reasons. Like all first-year principals, she was treated as an interim and had to reapply for her job.

All that said, last year at Janney was full of drama over the public-private partnership issue -- now resolved. I don't think that being at the helm of Janney last year was an enviable job. But I also don't think that, moving forward, there's anything a new parent should be worried about. You will be dealing with construction, but it's fast-tracked and the end result is new facilities.

I have actually heard from some Janney parents that this principal was not that great. I don't know all the details, but one thing I heard was some dissatisfaction with the hiring of teachers -- too slow or not great quality, I'm not sure what exactly.

We have been really excited about DD going to Janney next year. We went the OOB lottery route and hope she will be comfortable in her new school.
