First Choice Letters

Anonymous
Have any of you written/plan to write a "first choice" letter to Georgetown Day, Sidwell, etc.? Is it expected? Recommended?

interested in feedback here too

I, for one, did not (though perhaps I've made a mistake). I figure the top schools know that if they offer someone a spot, chances are good they'll accept. Especially when you add in the fact that admissions directors from the various schools know each other and supposedly "compare notes" so they know who's accepting who.

Really? Is this true?

Funny that they compare notes - totally illegal. The ivies got in big trouble for doing just that a generation ago.

If it is like it is in NYC, the DOA's do know each other and have contact. They reportedly tend to speak in more general terms about the current pool of applicants, etc. - but, if a family disingenuously expresses "first choice" status to multiple schools it is likely to get around.
