Why is NCS' website so blah?

Anonymous
Is it representative of life at the school? I know that academically NCS is one of the best around, so this is not about whether the girls get a great education. My question is does it foster a love of learning? When browsing the website it felt serious and a bit uptight. I'll be looking for an all girls MS/HS for my daughter in the next year and I want a place that is academically rigorous but I also want it to be an enjoyable experience. Past and current parents or current student and alumni if you had to describe the school in less than five words what would you say?

Do you really think NCS has held it's place as one of the best DC Private schools by having a boring/stuffy student life? My DD attends and she had to cut back on activities because they got in the way of her academics. Maybe visit their FB page where you can see day to day life at the school. Also, you won't get "flash" at NCS but you will get substance.

It's a website. Maybe it is outdated or maybe they don't care too much.

^^^I don't think it's outdated. It seems very up to date just a bit sterile. So it could be they don't care or as the previous poster said they don't do "flash."

I think that's possible. Some people like stuffy. I think the OP asks a fair question. Why are you so defensive?

The website was recently redone (in the past year).

DD was a prospective student this year. The school is tremendously impressive academically, and we were amazed with our classroom visits. But the school comes across as all business and I feel they have cultivated the reputation. I think as you visit each school - walk the halls, sit-in on classes, talk to students, attend sporting & art events, browse their web & social media sites, etc - you do get a sense of a school, and can compare "the vibe" with other schools. I wouldn't judge a school on only one of these aspects, but by looking at all of them it should give you a clearer picture.

Thanks, and I think you definitely used a better word choice than I did in my original post. Maybe "blah" isn't the right word and the correct phrase is "all business."

A lot of the more interesting content is only available to current families.

Why should they spend a lot to market themselves when they have tons of applicants and little competition (maybe Sidwell, GDS, and Holton).

I am not from either school and it is a joke including the "went" - but thanks for the correction.
