Beware of counterfeits on Amazon.com

I saw an awesome deal on a pillow cover when I was on Amazon, I bought it even though the delivery would take 3-4 weeks coming from China. It turned out to be so crappy, and now I understand why:

Yeah, I've heard that some of the products are fake.

I like Dermologica skin care products, and found "good deals" on Amazon, but after reading the reviews of the sellers decided not to purchase because some were saying they were fake!

I knew there were fake designer handbags, watches, etc. but it seems so odd that there are fake skin care products and pillow covers!

Hmmm. "Awesome deal" and "shipped from China" would have immediately triggered the "too good to be true" sensor for me.

Yea, I'm careful about what I buy on there now.

You'd think with so many people shopping there who trust Amazon for their purchases - why aren't they clamping down on the counterfeits? I like shopping Amazon and hate for it to become an eBay or Alibaba.

Only buy things sold directly by Amazon. Anything else is 99% from China in suspect packaging, counterfeit or used.

Because people are still buying things. And most of their profit comes from aws and prime.

Thank you Captain Obvious!

But seriously, why is Amazon allowing these overseas/China "businesses" to sell on their website? I don't get it, shouldn't they protect their customers from this trash?

People who care know how to filter by seller. People who don't are able to get the killer deal they want.

Amazon Web Services. All their cloud computing and storage services; mostly sell to VC funded startups (Dropbox is good example)

I've seen little notes popping up on some beauty items now that says something along the lines of "Amazon cannot verify the authenticity of this item. Please be aware that it may be a counterfeit good."

I mean, if they have to put that little warning up, why not just suspend their seller account? Usually the items with those messages will have several negative reviews about the item indeed being fake.

I generally don't buy anything that's not Prime or at least shipping domestically.

This is why I love Amazon reviews.

A lot of the Frye boots that have been on sale are fake.
