We live in Baltimore and are familiar with many of the options up here. But my husband and I will be commuting to College Park, and so are wondering if we should investigate schools in College Park or directly on the commute route.
On an old thread, I saw a reference or two to Friends Community School in College Park, which looks promising. Any schools you love or know people to love? I just don't know communities and schools down here very well and am trying to get a bearing. We're having deep discussions over education philosophy now. We are interested both in supportive schools with a strong ethical / community spirit. Academic preparation matters to us as well. Ideally we'd like have our cake and eat it, too. |
What grade?
We'd be applying to K next year.
Is Sandy Spring Friends School on the way?
There are also some catholic schools in the area like St Jerome Academy and Holy Redeemer, if those interest you.
Friends Community School
Yeah, FCS seems to fit the bill. Strong on community and academics, with a do-gooder Quaker ethos. It's in College Park, but a slight detour if you're heading to campus from Baltimore. I'd also worry a little about the logistics of having a child go to a school so far from home, but if someone's definitely making the drive 5 days a week, it could work.
