| We live in Virginia. We are familiar with the Dulles Sportsplex soccer bugs program. Where else can a 5yo girl learn to play soccer in a reasonably low-pressure environment? |
| FPYC's House program. Starts back up in fall. Spring season ending soon. |
| Where do you live? 5 yr old should be about fun anywhere you go with no pressure. Check out the club nearest you. |
| +1 for FPYC -- very low-key fun program. Depending on where your are, there are other programs: (I think) BRYC, Burke Athletic Club, SYA, etc. |
There are likely other day camp options during the summer to look into as well. Really, at this age any program that she is willing to go to and is fun and engaging will be fine. As a parent, your priority should be on your daughter having fun first and then emphasize footwork. Do not confuse a "big foot" with skill or potential. Soccer takes years to master the skills so focus on those early. Do not be impressed by kids that kick and chase the ball for goals. Do not get to excited if your kid does that. If your girl keeps the ball close to her feet and can control it that is a good early sign. Be more cognizant of her learning good fundamentals and less on relying on simply kicking the ball and outrunning other kids to it. Regardless of where she falls in line with the above, simply keep it fun and cheer her on. Don't coach her from the sideline, just let her play. |

I'd see if your county has teams organized by school, like ours (Arlington) does. Then she can play with her classmates. Before that, you can sign up for a class through the county or a summer camp and let her learn the fundamentals so she's not going in totally blind.
At that age, it's mostly just fun. Our league doesn't officially keep score until 2nd grade, though the kids seem to keep score in their heads. |

Awww, I remember that age! My soccer guy turns 13 this week. He plays travel now, but started out at 5 just playing on community "house" or "recreational" teams. We did Chantilly Youth Assoc. (CYA) which offers lots of community sports, including soccer. Just play to have fun at that age - learn a love of the sport. They don't even have goalies. Kids run the wrong way sometimes, or sit down on the field - it's adorable and so cute! My favorite part was at the end when the parents formed a tunnel and the kids ran through and were so excited! Everyone roots for each other and it's a blast!
Last week some kid told my kid he was going to "kick his a**" and then kicked him in the shin when they were shaking hands after the game. *sigh* Enjoy it while it lasts! |
There's not much at the age. Most clubs have a house program and maybe a weekly foot skills session that is like Soccer Bugs. You see more options starting at U7. |
