KKI - Anybody Else Have a Not-Great Experience?

Anonymous
Okay, I've seen so many people talk about KKI in glowing terms again and I have to ask: Did anyone else make the drive to Baltimore and think "eh"? We went in February. Only saw one doctor (not the team evaluation everyone else talks about) and she didn't say anything we hadn't already heard from our Children's Hospital developmental pediatrician here in DC. Also, they booked us at 4:30 and were running late, so by the time we were done with the intake interview my poor 4-year-old was ready for dinner and had no interest in participating in the testing at all. So, basically it was a giant waste of an afternoon.

Are there secret code words we needed to use when we booked the appointment to have a good experience? Does our insurance just suck? What's the deal?

We used them 3-4 years ago because they were the "gold standard" for auditory processing testing. Definitely an "eh".

Who at KKI did you see? - person/department? We went through the preschool intervention clinic. Sounds like there's no way that's who you went through, since they really only do AM appointments (team meetings in the afternoon). Certainly we've never been able to get a late appointment and all of ours (evals) have taken hours, so there's no way they'd schedule that late.

That said, I wouldn't expect anything different from what you get from Children's. Maybe also depends on the issues you're seeing them for - what are you seeing them for?

I don't remember the doctor's name and I'm too lazy to look it up right now. We went in through the front door, called the number on their website and let them pass us around until they connected us to the appointment gatekeepers. Then they added us to the wait list and called to set the appointment a few weeks later. I thought it was meant to be a preschool intervention assessment but it's possible we ended up elsewhere.

I'm not interested in dissecting the specifics of my experience so much as I'm curious how unusual that experience was. Our pediatrician acted like she didn't believe me when I told her we'd gone and it was a waste of time. So I have to wonder if it's just us.
