was cleaning out my parents house as my mom just passed away. at some point, found a document from 2010 that looked like a life insurance policy in my dad's name (he died 10 years ago) with my mom listed as a beneficiary. it looked like a statement. i saved it to check it out and apparently it ended up in the shredding pile and i can't find it. is there any way to track something like that. i can't for the life of me remember the name of the company.
she may have deposited the funds into her account in 2010 but i am not sure why she would have waited 5 years to do it. she was VERY disorganized about finances and was not at all on top of these things. |
| Any way you can find canceled checks or get access to their banking statements? You can also start with other policies (like car) to see if they just reused the same vendor. Sorry to hear about this - my parents always used State Farm, so I would just visit the agent and explain the situation. |
| Usually life insurance policies pay out right away, so it was probably paid out 10 years ago. I wouldn't worry about it. |

If you have a copy of your dad's will the info might be in there.
You can also contact NAIC http://www.naic.org/documents/consumer_alert_locate_lost_life_insurance_benefit.htm And here are some other options http://www.bankrate.com/finance/insurance/track-unclaimed-life-insurance-money-1.aspx |
I didn't find record of one of my dads policies until a year later. OP look through their bank records and see who they paid for life insurance every month. |
