95 south traffic on friday

What time does it start to back up headed south to Richmond? Anyone know what time the hov lanes switch from north to south bound?

My friend who lives in Richmond but spends a lot of time here for work always tries to get on 95 south before 3. On Friday, you should absolutely be on it before noon. And yes, it will suck all day.

On a normal Friday it'll suck, but Memorial Day weekend? Get on it early.

I'm the first person who responded. I grew up about an hour south of Richmond, and whenever I go visit my parents down there, what should be a 2.5 hour drive ALWAYS ends up being 4+ hours on a Friday (nearing summer). If you can get on as early as 9 a.m., do it.

Take 210 south to Bryan's Road and cut over to 301 at south end of La Plata and take Nice bridge into VA pick up 95 at Carmel Church just north of Kings Dominion.

Just checked, and the schedule says that the lanes open southbound at 1:00 pm, but they say that's subject to change, and I swear we've used them on Friday mornings on holiday weekends before (but we quit making that trek a couple of years ago). At any rate, if we weren't off before 9:00, it was painful.

I've done that Memorial Day Friday before, and it's no picnic, either.
There's too many people driving that day for it to be good any where.

Yes it will suck no matter the time. We left at 5am last year and still hit traffic.
