I love this way of looking at things. And I know it's true from countless personal experiences. I was and am definitely a bear, and it took discovering psychedelics in high school to finally wake up and clearly see the cages bothered me so. Before that, the only word I had to describe growing up tidy Falls Church was "ennui" which shouldn't even be in a 16 year old's vocabulary.
It is a real challenge to provide this kind of a liberated childhood in the DMV. But there is so much to lose that failure doesn't seem like an option. I'm glad you posted this link. Good to know other folks nearby see this picture too. |
| I only know a far left liberal homeschooling. She's also into home birthing in the bath tub, breastfeeding anywhere, . . . |
| Psychedelics are awesome. |

There are as many homeschooling mindsets as there are homeschoolers.
I nearly homeschooled my oldest because he has gifts AND special needs, which I didn't think any school was equipped to deal with. It looks like our public school might have a special program which might work for middle school, so for the moment I've shelved my homeschooling plans. |
|
Well if you look at the Well Trained Mind forums you will see that homeschoolers come in all shapes and sizes so to speak. They range from atheist to conservative Christian and from liberal to conservative and everything in between.
We homeschooled previously to meet my kid's special needs and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I never imagined that I would ever homeschool since 20 to 30 years ago I thought all homeschoolers were conservative Christian nut jobs. Boy was I wrong. |
Goddamnit you are really offensive!! If this had said "Muslim nut jobs" Jeff would have locked it or removed it all together within minutes of it being posted! |
I am referencing a certain subgroup of conservative Christians who believe in patriarchy, young earth creationism, an extreme emphasis on hell fires and brimstone and other extreme believes. They are nuts to me as well as Muslim extremists like ISIS or the Taliban. |
Ok? What is wrong with those things? |
| Both extreme left and extreme right, and all inbetween. could be any reason. Lousy public schools. Huge classes. Drugs in school. I admire those who do it. I don't have the patience to be a good homeschooling type. |
| No it's just a weird thing. |
|
75% right wing nut jobs
20% left wing nut jobs 5% education purists In my experience |
|
A growing number are teens that can't stand the teachers and other kids and just do an online program.
I believe kids need more outside time. I could not homeschool, but we found a private that does lots of outdoor time, rain or shine, until middle school. |
|
We homeschool and are politically progressive to moderate (vote Dem, pretty middle of the road within the party).
I did have a midwife birth in a bathtub (in a hospital) and breastfed everywhere, though.
|
| It's definitely a fringe activity. But a quick survey of the curricula marketed to homeschooling families definitely betrays a Christian bias. |
