Best "starter" deodorant for 10 year old boy?

Anonymous
The pediatrician has declared that our son is ready for deodorant. Honestly, looking at the mens deodorant section is overwhelming and everything seems so strongly scented. I want to get him something that is easy to apply and not too aftershavey scented. While I know I sound like the old 80s "strong enough for a man" commercial, I have been letting him use my Secret (powder scent). I'm fine sticking with that but at some point it will make him feel weird about using his mom's deodorant. Recommendations?

Take him to the store and let him sniff all the options until he finds one he likes. He'll be more likely to use it that way. If he doesn't care, just pick one that's not overwhelming. Or get him something similar to his dad's.

My kids loved smelling and choosing bath and body products at that age. They felt grown up. Be prepared for it to take a while though. It's such an important decision

Lots of kids--boys and girls--start with Toms of Maine. They have unisex scents available, not strongly scented.

Teen Spirit.

Second Tom's. The fewer the ingredients the better.

My DD uses Toms. My DS didn't like it. He uses Dove Men + Care which he really likes.

DD wanted some, not sure she needs it, I just got her whatever Suave she wanted for $1.

I just let my kid pick. He liked Axe as a tween and now prefers Old Spice. He doesn't pick the super manly man scents and it's fine. He doesn't walk around smelling like aftershave.

We chose Fresh Kidz at Giant. No alcohol, aluminum or harsh chemicals, etc... Girls and Boys scents.

We got an Arm & HAmmer deodorant; not antiperspirant. DS is also 10 and it seems to do the job at this point. I'm sure he'll need something stronger in a bit.

Same. He can move to antiperspirant when he needs it. Deodorant works fine for now.

The Old Spice "original" scent deodorant & antiperspirant is actually very lightly scented. (I know women who wear it b/c it works so well.) http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=26369&catid=360552 I buy it at Safeway.
