Yes, I know it's insane but we are going to NC. Any thoughts on how bad traffic will be if we leave about 9:30 a.m. on Friday? We usually leave at night but we thought the morning hours would be better than noon. We cannot leave earlier as DH has work obligations.
We're planning to come back on Sunday night to avoid the Monday traffic. |
| Well, that's probably as good as it will get. I usually try to leave around 4 a.m. on a day like that, so I can be south of Richmond by the time everyone else is waking up & leaving. |
| I have never found a good time to drive 95 between DC and Richmond. We will be coming the other way and plan to arrive in Alexandria Wed. night before Memorial day weekend. I would happily take slower backroads if I knew how. Any suggestions? |

PP, we've considered doing the 66-81 route but I don't find it particularly less congested or quicker.

Waze. |
| What town/area of NC are you head to? |
| Greensboro |
| Can you do 66->29S to Greensboro instead of 95? |
| You might have better luck on rt.1 |
| The most important question here - do you have an EZ pass? |
On the one hand, + a million. On the other, even that is not going to do you that much good on a holiday weekend. You're still in for hell. |
| If going to Greensboro do 66 - 29. Leave early and you will not hot that much traffic. |
Except for hot lanes on 95 what does ez pass do for OP? Not much in my opinion. |
Won't matter at 9:30. Even on a holiday weekend Friday, the hot lanes will still be going northbound. |
|
OP here. Yes, we have EZpass. And yes, PP, you are right about the hot lanes still going northbound. I think they change at 10?
