Graduation gift for DD

Anonymous
Our daughter is graduating from high school in a few weeks. While she would probably love it if we just gave her a check, I'd like to give her something more meaningful. How much did you spend and what did you get?

Just a party. Truly not hard to graduate from high school and money is no reward

This was a billion years ago, but I asked for a self defense class. I don't think there's a wrong answer here, OP.

if you know where she's going to college. Some swag from there, and/or a round trip use anytime airfare from the college town to home. First yer of college can be brutal on kids....especially if they are not used to be being away from home...

A nice dinner at the restaurant of his choice, oh, and college tuition and the things he needed for his dorm room.

My parents hosted a party. I didn't get an actual gift. But over the summer my parents spent a ton buy stuff for what would be the next 5 years of college for me.

My parents bought me some shares in a mutual fund. It started me in savings and thinking about retirement. It's grown a lot, and I really appreciate not just the money but the thoughtful lesson behind it.

They also bought me a car, which to be honest was kind of a waste of their money.

Well, if she plans on going to college, a high quality laptop (if not a MacBook). if she plans on starting work, then something less expensive, but memorable like a trip to the Bahamas. She can arrange other friends to go.

My parents bought me a good back-packing backpack. I kept it for decades.
