Private Swimming lessons for el.school kids - we are in upper NW

Anonymous
Kids are 7 and 10 and never really learned how to swim. They did group classes but did not learn much other than barely stay afloat. at the beach they have learned to dive and move a little around, but only with flippers, and I need to be with them because they cannot go very far without needing help. we are going to the beach in two month and I need them to learn so they are safe. we could not do group classes this winter because of kids had other activities, and now I think if they take 5 or 6 private classes they may be able to learn enough and then we can take them to Wilson to practice. I tried to teach them the basics but I am a lousy swimmer too (never went to classes, learned by myself) so it did not work. where should we go? I understand Wilson offers the possibility to get a private instructor. anybody had experience with that? other options? we are in upper NW, so we are looking in our area or Bethesda. we need places offering private lessons on weekends. TIA

The DC Jewish Community Center in Dupont does private swim lessons - they have been great for our son, who was very anxious about the water.

The dc JCC also taught my kids to swim. We did group classes but they also have private lessons.

Ann's Aquadics. You can get private lessons with her at the embassy suites hotel in Friendship Heights.

A little further north, but check out KidsFirst Swim School off Rockville Pike near Strathmore. They should have plenty of availability for private lessons. We're happy with the instruction for our 6yo, and there are older children in lessons as well.

Sheri Present is an instructor who does private lessons at a pool in Bethesda for the summer, staring in June. You can find more info at, http://swimwithsheri.com/#2810

Don't do classes at Anne's Aquatics. They are awful. I'd pony up for the private lessons at this point and get your kids water safe.
