Van Ness Elementary has 3 PK3 classes for 2016 - 2017 school year.

If anyone has seen their PK3 waitlist number at Van Ness improve, it's likely due to the fact that they added an additional PK3 class. This done since it was an early-action school that had guaranteed admission. Although, they increased the number of PK3 classes, I believe each class will be limited to 14 children. This is great for anyone going to Van Ness for PK3, since the class sizes will be small.

If they added a 3rd PK3 classroom and it's capped at 14 spots (the DCPS maximum for PK3 is 16: 15 through the MySchoolDC lottery and one through Early Stages), they added 14 spots. The real question is how many of them will be for OOB kids, and how many of those will go to siblings?

This could cause a bit of movement on other waitlists too.

I swear Van Ness booster, your school did not invent public education: All DCPS PK3 classes are small (never exceeding 15 or 16).

But does every DCPS PK3 contain kids of the caliber that will be at Van Ness?

I can't imagine it would impact other school's WL as VN seems to be the last resort for most.

Was there any updates on the number of IB students that have enrolled for PK-3 at yesterday's State of the School? Did they mention if the extra class is filled?

They did not mention the number of kids enrolled in Pk3. They did say they added an additional 1st grade class.
