A woman in my friend-circle got her daughter a tattoo for her birthday

We've known each other probably ten years, but only hung out one-on-one once (which was perfectly pleasant). Today her daughter turned 17 and after taking her to get her driver's license, she took her to get a tattoo that covers the entire shoulder blade. Jesus christ.

I feel like only a shady tattoo artist would do this, even with Moms consent.

At 17? Shrug.

I seriously clicked on this thinking OP was going to say the DD was 5 or 10 yrs old. But at age 17 -- meh. I mean I wouldn't do it, but if she didn't consent to the 17 yr old getting the tattoo, chances are she would have waited a yr and gotten the same exact thing when she could at age 18. At 17 she "thought out" exactly what she wanted. Not saying she won't regret such a huge, obvious tattoo later in life and not saying that the mother isn't potentially white trash for endorsing it -- but I don't see it as THAT big of a deal. America is full of fat, aging people with tattoos hanging off them that they thought were a fantastic idea at age 18.

You are going to get reamed a new one for posting this here but I agree with you 100%.

Just more white trash I'm sure. Sad story.

I think it's gross and would have tried to talk my DD out of it, but maybe the girl would have done it anyway on her own.

Same. Not the wisest move.

Did they get matching tatts? So classy!

Wouldn't be something I would ever choose to do, but I don't think I'd get upset about someone else doing it.

Her entire shoulder blade? No freakin' way. The kid is only 17 and that ugly tattoo will be with her for the rest of her life.

No way.

I really dislike tattoos in general . On a 17 year old, well that's just ridiculous.
