We are taking a short trip and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about getting the kids around (2.5 & 11 months). We have a combi side by side which is 25 lbs. It's a pain to lug around but works well. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are any weight restrictions that would prevent us from checking a double stroller, of if anyone has done it and recommends doing so. I have a front carrier I could put the 11 month old in but rarely use it so I'm not sure if that would go smoothly. If taking a double stroller is a potential nightmare I'll use the carrier for the trip (and the rest of the weekend.)
Any input is appreciated. |
I would definitely recommend the double. I have been allowed to use the special assistance lanes when traveling with my double, while all the families with single strollers sat in the long lines.
Sometimes the screeners will question if the stroller is going to fit through the x-ray machine, but I've never had a problem folding my Maclaren up and getting it through. I don't know what your arrangements are at the other end of your trip, but you may want to make sure your stroller will fit in the trunk of any car you might be using. |
I never had a problem flying with a double stroller, however I found it easier to use two cheap umbrella strollers -- either you each push one child, or you connect the strollers together (Babies R Us sells connectors). The umbrellas are lightweight and don't take up a lot of room in cabs, etc. - especially if you will be traveling with luggage and/or pack-n-plays. |
I've flown with, and gate checked my double Bob, which is pretty big and heavy. No problems. |
