Where can I find large, stately, one of a kind beds?

We bought our dream house and we have SLOWLY been furnishing it, really looking for things that we love and saving for those. We try to do one room a year or every two years depending on the cost. This year we wanted to do our bedroom, but I cannot find what I'm looking for in any of the furniture stores we have visited, which is all of them, I think. Our bedroom is huge and our old furniture looks small. Our bed looks so puny against the wall. A few years back I visited the most gorgeous house. It was my friend's sister who had recently bought it from an award winning architect. It was featured on magazines and it was a dream. I was particularly mesmerized by the furniture in the rooms. The house was fully furnished when it was bought, so my friend had not clue where it was made. The beds were massive, like something you would find in a castle, but modern! There was one canopy bed, but the other bedrooms had beds with large foot/headboard combinations. I honestly have never seen beds so beautiful. Is there a place, that makes pieces like that in the States? I cant even find a picture of something like that. This one seems to provide the size, thick pillars, large headboard, but it isn't very modern or pretty. But you can get an idea in it's size I welcome any suggestions!!!

You need to run some searches on furniture designers working in wood.

This looks like a Tudor bed from the Uk (at least based on).

Really I think you need to find yourself a master carpenter and get the design together between you.

This doesn't help you a darn bit, but for reasons I cannot explain, I am obsessed with this bed that is in one of Elton John's homes (Atlanta, I think). In the end, you may need to work with a furniture builder to get what you want. Another option is to attend high-end antique furniture auctions.

Second this. Also start a look book for your carpenter. Looking at your taste restoration hardware might be a good place to pull some photos from.

I've seen some stately beds advertised in "garden and gun" magazine. They often have ads for upscale furniture brands, including furniture made in the us. Go to their website And do a search.

Not OP, but while his furniture is lovely, it is basic and not the grand piece that OP seems to be looking for.

That Elton John bed is foul. It really shows his English working class roots.

It says on his website he makes custom pieces. I'm sure if you have the $$ he could create what she's looking for

OP, you don't mention wanting wood. For a non wood choice, there's something like this. We have a similar bed with tall headboard and metal canopy. It takes up a lot of visual space in our master bedroom, but isn't heavy, dark wood. Ours was custom made, but I Googled "headboard canopy modern bed", there were lots of options.
