Can Vanderbilt assessment (Parents) alone be able to diagnose ADD/ODD and lead to medication if necessary. Ped offered the test to determine if my DS may have ADD. She is experienced and good at diagnosing problems every time. Just wanted some views/opinions on this.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that ... especially adding in ODD. An ODD diagnosis can carry a big stigma and a good diagnosis should include insight into what is driving the ODD behavior (or at least it did with us).

| Checklists are very good at diagnosing symptoms: is the kid inattentive, hyper, impulsive. But it cannot tell you the reason. For that you would want a more comprehensive evaluation that can rule in or out things like learning disabilities or anxiety. |
