I'm not the OP, but I've considered uber for my daughter. How old are your kids when you let them do this?

I had a sitter picking mine up in the winter, but she wanted almost $20 per ride.

How about public transportation? Both RideOn and Metro buses are great and you can get anywhere. My tween has been taking them (alone) since the 6th grade. Let the kid have some independence.
