Really. I can't remember a time in elementary/middle/high school when I didn't know EXACTLY which sneaker was the coolest, which store to get it from and what to wear it with. Now I can barely dress myself let alone my husband. Which is not to say that I dress my husband, just that he is walking around in shorts and tee shirts and flip flops and I would like him not to wear flip flops in public (which is a whole other thread on why men's toes look like THAT). So, what do men in their 40s wear on their feet in the summer? Pictures appreciated. Of the shoes, not the feet, please.
My husband wears Keens.

My husband wears something similar to these (same brand, just a few years older):

Most of the men I know where some version of a shoe that looks like a Sperry Boat Shoe.
really? I haven't seen those since the 80s. And it's wear, not where. |

Typing too fast, thus the error.
Take a look around, they are still on many men's feet, maybe a different color and not always in leather, but they are still frighteningly popular, at least with the over-30 set. |
Gross. That is a complete turn-off.
My husband is in his early 30s and is a longtime boat shoe enthusiast...I'd rather he wear those than big huge athletic shoes, I guess. Lots of brands make nice and slightly modified (less boat-y?) versions of these shoes - Timberland, Cole Haan, you name it.
call me old-fashioned, but i don't like it when guys wear running/training shoes for non-athletic activities. just seems weird to me if a guy shows up to the bar or party in jeans and running shoes when no running (or even real walking) will be taking place. seems like the default shoe for a lot of guys.
Lots of men wear loafers with no socks and shorts. It looks best with more of a driving-shoe type of loafer than a penny or tasseled loafer which looks a little off to me. My husband feet sweat too much to wear sockless loafers so he goes with "mandals" and shorts. I know people make fun of "mandals" but I actually like the way men look in a nice pair of brown leather sandals. They have to be masculine but I really like the look. Cole Haan makes nice ones. I hate running shoes for anything other than athletics. A pair of low converse sockless could be cute depending on the guy but on the younger and way casual side. I was at a beach shop recently (at a beach) and saw these new style shoes that were rough fabric loafers but called sandals... very surf. I can't remember the name of them but they were kind of cute in a "dude" kind of way (whioch my husband is not but 8 yr old DS is). Probably too casual/surfer style for DC but cute at the beach and totally cute for an 8 yr. old.
I like the sperry's but my husband also tends to wear brooks brothers and vineyard vines clothes so it all goes together. His are a light leather/fabric combo. Not a big fan of keens for city wear, okay for hiking/beach.
