Teacher cover letter question - switching grades

Anonymous
Hi,

Middle school teacher here. I am applying for new schools and interested in teaching HS. I have taught middle for 4 years but am also licensed for HS. When I write cover letters, should I address this and why I am potentially interested? Or leave that out and wait for possible interview? Unsure what is most effective.

Those of you who are forum regulars, this is OP of "from a struggling teacher" a few months back.

Only if you can say it in a positive way

I would focus instead on how you are qualified to teach HS, what experience you've had with HS-aged students (summer school, tutoring, etc.) and what you can bring to the table (coaching after school, etc.) I think most HS administrators are very aware of why a MS teacher would be interested in making the switch to HS.

This is good advice. Keep everything absolutely positive. All the way along the line, including interviews. Everything is a learning experience, after all. (no pun intended)
