Type 2 diabetes plus infertility treatments?

Anonymous
Looks like my gestational diabetes turned into full blown diabetes, lucky me. I was doing the start up testing for starting infertility treatments at shady grove and they found my A1C was elevated. They said I needed sign off from my primary care doc before I could begin. I ended up trying to lower it through diet and exercise for six months and it didn't move so I just started taking glyburide (Same Med I took when pregnant). Doc said she'll sign off in 4 weeks if I don't have any issues. The doc at shady grove seems fine with this, as well. Just curious if anyone else is being treated for diabetes plus infertility and if it had any impact on their cycles. Thanks!

I had it a bit the other way around; my blood sugars went so crazy immediately with my pregnancy that my primary and MFM both assumed I had had undiagnosed type 2 before. when I lost that pregnancy my blood sugars went back to pre-diabetes stage. I've been taking metformin and my current RE has no issues with that or my A1C.

Apparently insulin resistance can be exacerbated by progesterone levels.

Basically, it just means you need to be more diligent about tracking blood sugars and it is likely that at some point in the pregnancy it will no longer be able to be controlled by oral meds and diet, and you'll need to start insulin injections.
