It is disturbing the amount of gore and death this breed/mix brings. There are a lot of pit bull lovers that state that those are dogs that were abused/taught to attack or whatever excuse. Here are FACTS of people who are murdered by their own loving dogs.

Don't forget tye newborn that was killed last week by their "gentle family pet"
Parents were holding the newborn on the bed after coming home from the hospital, mom sneezed, and their pit mix attacked and killed the baby in minutes. Both mom and dad were right there but there was nothing they could do to stop that beast from murdering their baby right in front of their eyes. Other dogs might bite but the ones that kill and maim are almost exclusively pits or pit mixes, with many of them being "gentle family pets." |

There's a big difference between pits and pit mixes.. my lab/boxer/pit mix was a fantastic family pet (he passed away at 13.5 you last week) and I know many other pit mixes who were fantastic as well.
Just like any other pet you bring into your home, you should be familiar with the breed and get a pet that is appropriate for your family. |

Facts are facts. |
And facts are completely twisted by that site. There's no inherent danger presented by pits that haven't been abused or abusively "trained." |

Idiots saying idiot things because they are idiots.
I don't own a pit and won't because of the stigma and liability associated with the breed. But I have several friends who have them and they are great dogs. My kids play with my close friend's beautiful pit all the time. Most "pitbull attacks" are actually attacks by other breeds mistaken as pits. See if you can find the pitbull. http://www.pickthepit.com/ Be honest. The vast majority of people couldn't tell a pitbull from the many, many other similar looking breeds. Sadly, the American Staffordshire (often labled as pitbull) gets the blame every time a dog even remotely appears to be a bully breed. Pitbull is NOT a dog breed. American Pitbull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier are breeds. Both are recognized for their outstanding temperament. They are considered "good-natured" and great family pets by the AKC. Sadly, people are quick to label any mix even slightly resembling a bully breed as ",pitbull". My German Shepherd is much more likely to bite than an American Pitbull Terrier. No one is trying to legislate GSDs. Or Rotties. Or any other larger breed. Look at the AKC temperament tests. |
I've known a lot of awesome pit bulls -- whether or not they go by "terriers" -- and I agree that each individual one is lovable and made a great pet, but they are dangerous and it is just crazy for anyone to pretend they are a normal breed of dog to have as a pet. All dogs have the potential to bite. Not all dogs have the predisposition to kill in packs, or kill when they bite. There are so many great dogs out there. Pit bulls should be phased out as pets. It makes no sense to have one when you can choose to have another breed instead. |
| Hey- my Pomeranian bit my eyeball when I was 7 and I could have gone blind. I was at racked my the German Shepard next door who escaped a small fenced yard. As a horseback rider told her class - anything With teeth can bite! |
I notice the Pomeranian didn't maul you to death.... |
A pomeranian is likely to stop before mauling you to death though... |
Yeah, but you don't want your kid to lose their eye. I had a small dog bite very close to my eye too when I was a kid. Just a little bit closer and I probably would have lost my eye. Thankfully, I don't remember a thing about it. I love dogs - all sizes. I've met some really sweet and gentle pits before so I can not agree that the entire breed is bad news. Good owners tend to have good dogs - regardless of the breed. |
The point is that all dogs have their moments, even good dogs. Pit bulls are capable of inflicting tremendous damage when they bite. I'd rather my kids get a tiny scar in the hairs of their eyebrow than lose their entire face. |
No. I came close to losing an eye. I was lucky that didn't happen. And it was a little dog. Obviously there is a limit to how badly a small dog can hurt someone but don't think that they can't do significant damage to a small child because they can. Luckily, many family dogs never bite anyone. Ever. |
And imagine if that dog had been a pit bull or pit bull mix. You would likely not have lived through that attack. |
