Not a bro Dad

Men: if you have kids and you are wearing your baseball hat backwards, no one respects you. We see you for the little man-child you really are.

Yikes, take the stick out...

Different take: I like bro dads. And FWIW, I am not married to one (DH would be better defined as metrosexual, which isn’t terrible) and really did not have one myself (dad was poor, 1rst gen).
But between the previously described, DCUM dad and the bro dad, I’ll take the latter.

To me it means overly-groomed, into clothes and restaurants and throwing parties.

Metrosexual in my opinion are the men who
1) pay more attention to appearance, grooming and dressing,
2) happy to go to see NFL game AND the philharmonic orchestra,
3) care about what china you select,
4) participate more with household tasks.

Urban hipster. Fancy hairdo, consider themselves "cultured", usually think they're a gourmet cook and look down on plebeian food, like to drink hard liquor with the giant ice cube.. Don't get along with bro dads.

It's OK to be a nebbish but it's tacky to lash out at well-adjusted happy people.

A true bro dad would never be caught-dead driving his wife’s minivan (“the minivan is a woman’s wheels, brah”).

I think there are many versions of the bro dad, so it's hard to have a blanket opinion on them.

Bro-y qualities include:

Liking to drink/party. There are many degrees of this, from just social guys who enjoy social settings and like having a beer, to people with actual drinking problems who cannot function without alcohol.

Liking sports. Usually bros are somewhat more interested in sports as a spectator than being serious athletes themselves, though some bros are very into working out. Most bros enjoy watching a sporting event and drinking beer. Preference for popular American sports like football or baseball over something like soccer or tennis, but this isn't a hard and fast rule and I've been bro-y soccer dads.

NOT intellectual, particularly political, or very interested in the arts. Bros listen to hit music (current or whatever was popular when they were in college), see blockbuster movies, and if they read, read only books you'd find on display at an airport bookstore.

Within that, there are many iterations. I find the bros who drink heavily intolerable, I will avoid them like the plague. But someone who is just a social drinker who enjoys social events? That's actually nice and it can make school events easier to deal with when there are people like this around. I'm very intellectual so can be a little bored by the lack of intellectual curiosity of a lot of bros BUT I'm a huge sports fan and love discussing pro sports of all kinds, so can often find a way to relate to a bro dad on that front.

Some bro dads are affable, kind dads who I really admire. Others are competitive, negligent fathers and husbands I resent, and I feel sorry for their kids. It just depends.

Being a bro dad is not a personality. It's more like a specific dad mold. I cannot universally love or despise bro dads. You have to evaluate them on an individual basis.

Anyone notice all the bro-dad vehicles were the first ones out in the snow?

Bro dads are often addicted to the 4WD (four wheel drive) vehicles. Except NOT Subarus; it is the bro-dads who malign Subarus as being driven “primarily by lesbians.”

No, a bro-dad has an office job and a suburban house with virtually no yard, but he somehow just “needs” to drive a gas-guzzling pickup truck.
