I am an apple shape (I was not always, but after numerous pregnancies thats where I am) and I am getting frustrated and need some inspiration and guidance. I am doing the shred (after a month of 5 times a week, I am doing it 2 times a week, plus the 45 minute banish fat dvd 1 time a week), I have cut out the obvious high fat foods, and am trying to eat better (and less). While I am more toned, and feeling better, I am not really losing weight, and not even inches in my bust and abdomen.
If you are a reformed apple, I'd love some diet guidance. Thanks very much. |
| I'm still apple shape, but smaller. I lost enough weight to have a better waist to hip ratio, but I'll never be curvy. I had to cut out almost all sugar/white rice/potatoes. And limited milk sugars. |
| I recently lost the 50 lbs I have been carrying around since having my children. I was always so thin until havig kids that I had no idea I was an apple other than having a generous chest for a super thin chick. Two children later, it was quite clear, I was a big round MacIntosh. I think the key for apples, such as I, who carries most all my weight in my tummy, torso, and boobs, is a low calorie diet of lots of veggies, fruits, lean meats, a few nuts, non-fat low sugar yogurt (try Greek and Icelandic Skyr styles) and limiting sweets and carbs to small portions (but allow yourself some or you will eventually binge). Raw is better than cooked and little to no processed foods. Exercise, while important, isnt the key as much as it is for pears, to losing weight although its great for toning and cholesterol (which is often a problem for apples). |

Another apple!! UGH! For most of my life my problem area was butt and thighs, tho I have broad shoulders so I wasn't exactly a pear shape. But as I hit my 40's I started working out, got into pretty good shape and coming to terms and even embracing my bit butt (thank you, JLo ). But a few things got in the way and a year or so ago I got off my routine. Every pound I have put back on has gone to my midsection (I am pretty sure I am peri-menopausal). It is so very unattractive.
I recently read (via an older report I found through an internet search) that diet alone isn't very effective on belly fat/apple shapes. But that the study showed that women who walked 50 minutes 3x a week showed wonderful results after 14 weeks and that the results were even higher if calories were cut as well. I have started walking 60 minutes 5 times a week. Perhaps I will see results even quicker, : D -- I have to do 5 times a week as if I do 3x I often forget to do it. Crazy, but true. I walk early in the morning BEFORE coffee and before my husband leaves for the office just to make sure I will do it. I am also cutting calories and way back on the white carbs as a PP mentioned. |
Totally agree. Cut out all the white stuff. ALL OF IT. It's the only way for this problem. |
| Op here- thank you! You all gave me inspiration and practical tips. |

You can be gaining muscle, so don't get too obsessed about the scale.
Don't eat past 6pm and don't eat right befor eyou go to bed. That's how sumo wrestlers bulk up - they gorge then go to bed. |

You need to add in cardio.
Do you run? Bike? Adding this into your workout routine will help. Also - although not eating after 6PM would be a nice thing to do - it is not realistic for many people. Personally, I try not to eat after 8PM. |
