Where do kids from Eleanor Roosevelt Science and Tech Program go to college?

Anonymous
Is there a list of their college acceptance rate published anywhere? How does it compare with high schools in Montgomery County?

It's on par with the schools in Montgomery County. I graduated in the late 90's and there were Ivy Leaguers, SLAC's, a lot to UMCP on full scholarship, many to the Meyerhoff program at UMBC, etc. You really do have some of the best and brightest there.

Thanks, I compared the Science and Tech list with lists from all the Montgomery County High schools and the admit rates seemed excellent, especially when you consider the Sci/Tech graduating class is only about 250 students, I think.

Curious though why not one was going to MIT.

A couple of kids from my son's graduating class went to MIT. He attended UMCP on a full ride (Banneker Key) and was also accepted at Cal, UNC Chapel Hill, Caltech, UT Austin, etc. My daughter who graduated from the science/tech program went to Pitt with a merit scholarship.

Love Roosevelt!

I graduated from a similar high school with similar demographics (in another city), and sometimes places like MIT just aren't on the radar. A lot of people ended up going to the flagship state school on full scholarship, and many others went to smaller state schools. There were a few outliers (HBCUs, Brown, Dartmouth, Renssalaer, etc). It doesn't mean they can't get in from Roosevelt, it may mean that no one in the class wanted to go.

Do they do a report like this for every school? I was trying to find Laurel High.

Sure but, given the "tech" part of science and tech, all the engineering classes, etc, I'd expect MIT to be on students's radar.

Does MIT give lots of merit aid? If not, I can imagine that would be a very good reason when offered full-rides to other schools.

The SAT scores and college acceptances from Roosevelt are on par with or better than Moco or privates.

Yeah, I can see that -- they also might not give as much need based aid compared with some other schools.

This list includes Flowers and Oxen Hill. I wish there was three separate lists.

Five kids going to Rensselaer Polytech is a BIG deal. Bigger than MIT in my opinion.

A lot of these kids are URMs which is a very helpful hook when it comes to college admissions.
