Level III services

Anonymous
I am submitting my referral for level III services for my DD. She didn't get in to AAP. We've since had a WISC done and I don't think it supports an appeal but I'd like to at least hope for level III services. She got a 132 on the verbal section of the WISC.

Does that seem like it would be accepted? GBRS 12 and very strong report cards.

Ideally, I'd like her pulled for enrichment but also for language arts and social studies. (We have local level IV). Do I specifically request what I want or leave it to the AART.

I think you have a strong case for level III but definitely talk to the AART to show your interest and get her input on how to make it happen. Unlike level IV, the local school makes level III decisions so may as well get in her ear.

PP, does that mean NNAT and cogat might not be a factor?

If you are getting 3s and 4s on the report card you're getting Level III. If you're getting 3s and the parents push it, you're getting Level III.

Basically, kids for whom failing the SOLs are not a concern by the administration will be getting Level III.

What happens if your kid is in immersion?

? The SOL has nothing to do with it.

My kid gets almost all 4s with very few 3s and does not get Level III services.

Delivery of Level III services differs from school to school.

My understanding is that it is considered, as is a WISC if you have one. I know when I was talking to the AART about level III in case DD didn't get Level IV, she mentioned that my WISC may be too low for level IV but would be fine for level III. My WISC was a 125. I never ended up using it. I got it because NNAT was not 132 but then CogAT turned out to be 143 so I held onto the WISC especially since the AART said it wouldn't get me into level IV AAP. I thought it made my CogAT look weak.

Talk to the AART. When my child did not get in I asked about Level III and was told we didn't need to do anything else for consideration - at our school they automatically consider all kids referred for or in pool for IV for Level III.

Talked to our AART the other day, and she said the same thing.

My DC is in immersion and is Level III. Questions?

How does it work? Is DC's Level III math and science in the target language? If not, how does DC have math and science in both English and target language? In theory our immersion program is 2-way immersion, nkt sure if that makes a difference.

In our school, Level III is a pullout and they may do some math-oriented activities, but it is more like problem-solving. For instance, earlier this year they did a segment on innovation and developing new products/ideas to better meet the needs of consumers - i.e., think IDEO and how they work to improve everyday products (google Nightline segment on IDEO and shopping carts). I know students who get pulled for advanced math do not do Level III AAP in the target language.

That said, our program is partial-immersion. YMMV.

Level III services are weekly pullout project hased classes with the AART combined with accelerated math.
