Gift ideas for student teachers

We would like to contribute to the "New Teacher Survival Bag" that will be a going away / appreciation gift for the student teacher in DC's classroom. We don't know where or what grade he will be teaching next year so that rules out things like contributing books for classroom library. I assume he will be working at a MCPS elementary school next year.

We would appreciate any suggestions for specific things (and Amazon links would be really helpful). I am assuming there is a limit to how many paper clips, sticky notes etc a teacher can use and am looking for other ideas.

Thanks!

How about a gift card to a local school supply store, like "ABCs and 1-2-3s" on Rockville Pike? What about Sharpies, dry erase markers, colorful Flair pens, highlighters, and colorful Post-it notes. You could also go to Five Below and get some colorful plastic containers (all sizes are good). Even though you don't know the specific grade level, books can still be purchased. Kids read at a variety of levels in each grade. Nonfiction books are always nice (think books with colorful pictures..."All About Sharks", etc.)

As a teacher, I actually find that I spend more money at AC Moore and Michael's than teacher stores. With my school ID, I get a discount and just keep an eye out for sales.

I also agree about Amazon.

If you want to purchase items that are general for any grade....colored Sharpies, highlighters, fun notepads, blank notecards....

Sharpies and Expo markers
I like PP's idea about plastic bins - regardless of grade level, a teacher will need a million of these

I like the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card idea. It is so helpful and will be a huge timesaver for the teacher next year.
