| To any current parents or parents with recent graduates: Can you give me any information about their 8th grade program in terms of academics, elective offerings and the school climate? What is the difference in the Stuart Hobson honors vs. non-honors program? In Adams, do students generally speak spanish outside of class? |
|
Adams students typically don't speak Spanish out of class unless they are recent immigrants.
This year, 20 8th graders are taking the AP Spanish exam. |
| Since when are there honors middle school programs? |
SH and Hardy each offer some honors classes. |
| There is no AP Spanish course at Adams, the 20 students were selected randomly from the those that are proficient or advanced in Spanish. |
You don't need to take an AP class in order to sit for the AP exam. After almost 9 years of dual immersion education, I presume that a majority of the Adams kids (who are proficient and advanced) can get a passing score on the AP exam (3 or above). Last year, I believe 2 Adams students earned a 4, and 1 earned a 5 (out of the five kids who took the exam--it was the pilot year). |
| Ok - can anyone help OP with her SH question? Or questions about OA academics aside from AP Spanish. |
These two schools are very different, and geographically far apart. How do you find yourself choosing between these two schools? Why will your child only attend for one year? In other words, why are you leaving your current school after 7th grade? |
| Maybe OP is just moving to DC or her kid is in a school that is a bad for. Not sure anyone needs to know her business to answer the questions. |
+1, very strange question. OP, if you answer some of PP's questions, we may be able to be of more help. |
Are you serious?!? Asking about why she chose two such different schools is trying to get in her business? If we know more about what she's looking for, or why she's leaving her current school, we can offer better advice. If these very basic questions are too invasive for her, maybe she needs to figure this out for herself. |
There are 53 kids in 8th, FWIW. OA doesn't report retention rates of kids who started in PK/K and stayed all the way. Many MS kids started after 3rd and came in as bilinguals. |
