Should we forget about caned chairs with the obesity crisis?

Or should heavy people know not to plop down on such furniture, not to get on children's backyard swings, not to jump on someone's floors?
Sick and tired of this issue. Can't people be self aware? The damage I have mentioned costs thousands. One chair was a danish mid century design, previously worth a lot. The floor was damaged by two teens, each weighing at least 220 pounds, doing a dance together. I really thought the house would come down. I ran over and asked them to stop, but did not say why. Floor tiles were loosened. Forget the swing, 6 inch branch cracked. We have no other branches.
People, there is a difference between commercial quality and residential property in terms of durability and strength. OK?

Well, I certainly avoid caned chairs.

Maybe buy better quality stuff? Things should hold up to 220 lb people.

OP here's a question for you?

If you have already spent thousands on repairs from "heavy people" shouldn't you learn your lesson and maybe not keep things like antique chairs where children or teens of any size and weight could damage them.

When people jump in synchrony, even commercial structures can be damaged or collapse. It is one thing for two 5 year olds to do this, but 500 pounds would make a floor like a trampoline.

You hung a swing where it couldn't hold 220 lbs? You're lucky one of your kids didn't run and jump or otherwise use it in a normal kid way and severely injure themselves.

they're chastised for being fat and now you're still not happy when they're moving and burning calories. You need help.

That's ridiculous. High end garages use ceramic tile. You have substandard materials or workmanship. What's your sub flooring?

you complain they're too fat for your precious poorly made chairs. you complain when they get off your chairs and move around. what exactly was it you wanted them to be doing? maybe do them a favor and don't invite them over anymore, there'e nothing they can do to satisfy you.

That's just stupid. A commercial structure isn't going to come down because two people danced on it. There's a reason the very rare occasion that type of thing happens makes news headlines. Commercial structures are made for thousands upon thousands of pounds to move around on it. Do you really think steel frames are unable to withstand a room full of people dancing after a wedding? I can't think of any headlines where a building (or even a house) crashed, but I've heard of a few random decks and balconies. Seriously, take a xanax.

We're the most wasteful people in the world,
making ourselves fat, fat, fat.
This is insanity.
But it sure does fuel Big Pharma, doesn't it?

Look up some of the hot looking professional baseball players that everyone would LOVE to have over to their homes. A good many of those guys weigh over 200 pounds. Some weigh over 220 pounds. Do not try to tell me that you would not invite them over because of your precious wicker chairs...

Get sturdier furniture. The wicker crap that you have wouldn't withstand most teenagers actually. It's more about their energy level and flopping onto furniture than their weight.
