How to deal with cvs and adderall

| Do we need to show them proof that we we going to be out of town therefore will need to pick up the adderall 2 days earlier ? They always seems to make a big deal when we try going on 26 or even the 27th day? And we are going out of town for a week next month when school is out and we would like to know if we need to show the the plane tickets or what? |

| You need to talk to the pharmacist. They will tell you your options. The issue isn't getting the med. the issue is getting insurance to pay for it. You maybe able to get your dr to write you a 7 day script and then pay for it out of pocket. |

| The pharmacist at our cvs called the insurance company and they allowed us to have the exact number of extra pills we'd need for our trip. |

I have fought this battle with CVS. The issue is not getting insurance to pay for it. The issue is that CVS has PITA dispensing practices. And talking to the pharmacist will get you nowhere. This is a controlled substance. This is their policy. They will not discuss it. Period. You need the doctor to okay an early refill. If you know in advance, have them write on the prescription okay to fill early on xxxxx date. Since it is class II they may or may not allow the doctor to call in and tell them it's okay to refill early.
Even better-- just use a different pharmacy. Even plans that require CVS/Caremark for 90'day perscriptions don't for controlled drugs. I have good luck getting Rite Aid to be reasonable and work with me. |

Yes we are going to Disneyworld.. but I am not sure if we are going to have a car to go to cvs |

Also-- if the CVS there is being difficult, they could refuse to fill the out of state Rx for a controlled drug. And your MD can't call it in down there. I wouldn't risk it. |

| Ask the doctor to write a prescription for a higher daily dosage than you usually take. This will not count as an early refill because the assumption will be that the total daily dosage is changing, not that you are getting extra pills. |

| ^^ Why would physician write a prescription for a different and higher dose if the patient does not need a higher dose? I would be suspicious of the doctor. |

They will NOT fill out of state adderall scripts.
I asked my doctor and he wrote a separate one for extra pills for one month. It wasn't a "higher" dose. It was just more pills. Then, I used those as a buffer. |

That is not my experience. I just filled prescriptions over spring break and we were out of state. |

I think what PP means is if you take one pill per day, have the doctor make the scrip say '34 pills per 30 days'. Or, take 8 pills per week - so that you have one extra pill per week. My doctors do this for several scrips. One because I double up on the dose twice a week and one just to have a few extra pills per month for vacation time hoarding or in case you drop one in the toilet or whatever. I'm supposed to take two patches of one medicine twice a week for two weeks out of the month. The patches come in a box of 8. That would mean 12 patches in a 90 day period but there are 8 in a box so insurance refused to pay (cvs) because they say you can't have part of a box. So my doctor now says take two patches every week. So, that makes it 8 patches/month which is one box and 3 boxes for 90 days. Insurance covers that because it's exactly three boxes for 90 days. I just refill my scrip less often (but really sometimes those patches fall off so you need a fresh one sometimes so extra is good). |
