What does Beyoncé, HRC, and the decisions of many DC women show us?

That women will let their husband/partner step out as long as said partner is high enough on the status/money totem pole.

I've made the comment for years on here (with some DCUMs agreeing) that dc women let their men cheat more than women in other cities. I know bey/jay aren't a dc couple but still the moral holds. As long as you have the right status/money - you can get a huge pass.

It's funny that both bey and hrc are held up as role models for young girls as "strong, alpha" women.

Don't know about your entire premise, but wonder when Obama says Beyonce is a role model for his daughters. JayZ is thuggish and she sings about bitches, hoes, etc.

Everybody chooses their own role models

I think that you are oversimplifying the issue immensely. People have a lot of reasons to stay married when one person has an affair. For some, it is certainly the money. For others, it is that they love their partner and don't want to divorce. It's not about "letting" anyone cheat (what a ridiculous thing to say!). Famous couples face issues that non-famous couples simply don't face. Your nobody husband's affair isn't going to get talked about in the press. If you divorce and start over, you're not going to be critiqued the whole time the way that she would.

I don't understand why you are limiting "role model" to this one characteristic. Beyonce is an international superstar. Hillary Clinton is (probably) the next President of the United States. If there are flaws in them or things that you don't approve of, then it's a good conversation to have with your daughters about how being famous doesn't mean you are perfect. I think that having Beyonce and Hillary Clinton being what they are is a demonstration to young women that women do not have to be flawless to be powerful. That even for the most powerful people, marriage is not a fairy tale. Also that women can BE powerful, even without the perfect marriage.

Do we know there was cheating or was it just a way to get people to be interested and sell more records? Either way, I don't think men or women "let" their spouses step out.

Can we please get thru an hour without hearing about Beyoncé? I don't get her appeal with or without JZ.

This is a relationship discussion board, and she just put out a record that is all about her relationship, dealing with issues that many on this board have faced.

It's completely relevant, but if you would rather not read about it, there are plenty of other threads to click on.

She is saying Obama and Beyoncé are hitting it! That's her premise. Maybe Obama will take a second wife? Don't judge!

The album is not autobiographical, it's about relationships in general.

Jay Z is a very successful businessman. How is he thuggish?

I think there are lots of marriages that stay together despite infidelity. People think of adultery as this huge deal breaker issue, but really it's very common. And I actually think people with less money would have more of a reason to stay together than vice versa. Beyoncé or Hilary could easily afford to live on their own. Beyoncé would still be a star, Hilary would likely still have become a senator. Leaving Bill might have even helped her public image. I think they stayed for the same reasons lots of people stay, whatever those reasons may be.

Yes, I'm not so sure it's a 100% factual account of their relationship.

The Lemonade video is amazing, btw!

Right.

Huge oversimplification. With kids in the picture, leaving isn't always best. I don't base my opinion on women on this type of thing. There is more to these women than cheating husbands and you don't know what goes on in a marriage.
