I've been doing some reading about the different approaches to teaching math (i.e. Everyday Math versus Singapore). I was wondering which elementary schools in the area use Singapore and if that style of teaching has been effective in your/your child's experience.
I think the new BASIS in McLean/Tysons does.
BASIS uses Saxon. |
Several schools use,Math in Focus which is Singapore based: Sheridan, Bullis, Potomac is moving to it I believe, ACDS. |
SSSAS and ACDS both use Math in Focus
SSSAS is using Singapore Math as of this academic year.
Primary Day
OP here. What about other NoVa lower schools like Congressional, Langley, Green Hedges and Potomac (confirmation on Math in Focus). To those of you who have kids learning "Singapore" math, are you happy with it? Is it better than alternative methods that are used in public or were used previously at your private?
@ SSSAS. Hard to tell. DS likes math, grasps the concepts easily. Is it effective - yes. But, he did the same last year. The approach is different for me. Certainly not the way I learned math. More of a visual, graphic way of explaining the concepts, which may be helpful to a wider variety of learners.
Bullis Lower School uses Math in Focus.
Landon uses Singapore Math
Sheridan started using it (2015) and then dropped it within the year -
So how does Math in Focus differ from Singapore Math? |
Green hedges in Vienna
Congressional has used it for a few years.
