Toddler Friendly Charleston

Anonymous
I've been to Charleston before but just on a girls trip. We are going on a family trip for a few days this summer and I was curious if anyone had any recommendations on activities that they have done with their young children there. I am already planning on going on a carriage ride and possibly take a plantation trip and walk the market. What's more kid friendly? I love the homes but I can't see my son currently feeling the same!

Thanks for any help (and by the way I did look in the search function but I mainly found info about restaurants)

I would stay at a nice hotel on Kiawah with a beach. I did the plantation trips and they are NOT fun for kids. Boring compared to Mt Vernon or Williamsburg and LONG tours. Walking the market was good for about 15-30 minutes. Adults were bored on both. And we were middle aged women.

I love the Alhambra playground in Mt. Pleasant. It's beautiful there even for adults.

There are also some great playgrounds and walking trails in I'on in Mt. Pleasant.

there is a playground by Colonial Lake downtown and one by the Battery.

Oh! the Children's museum of Charleston is fantastic! definitely check that out. They have this great boat that the kids climb on.

+1. We have family in Charleston and they spend lots of time. Last time we were there we had lunch on Shem Creek and watched dolphins swim down the creek. And, frankly, the biggest draw for toddlers will be sandcastles at the beach. Doesn't get better than that!

My parents live in Charleston and I have kids who are 6 and 8.

We like this park a lot, if you can get to it: http://www.ccprc.com/69/Palmetto-Islands-County-Park. You can rent paddle boats, they have nice playgrounds and trails, and a water park.

They've also enjoyed the children's museum and (to a lesser extent), the aquarium- which is a little pricey to me.

Charles Towne Landing is also good- there's a boat to explore and an "animal forest" with lots of walking trails.
