If you have three or more children, what are their temperaments?

Anonymous
We have three. First one is very responsible, likes to do well in school and follows all our rules. Second one is a total lovey dovey sweetheart who says, "I love you," at least ten times a day. Last one is a firecracker who keeps us on our toes and kind of creates chaos in a peaceful home. Last week we hung out with another family of 3 and the temperaments totally aligned even if gender did not.

So, out of curiousity, what's your family like? And if you have more than three, how does the pattern continue? (Like, will I get a sweetheart for #4?)

I know these are gross generalizations but I was amazed at how our kids lined up so perfectly!

Same for us! I really believe in birth order predictions!

Number one has historically been a tough kid--prone to tantrums when younger--even through age 5--hard to motivate to get dressed/eat breakfast/finish homework. He's also gorgeous (it's true!) and so funny and innocent and can be sweet.

Number two is a total joy and a total love. She also has a feisty side and is honestly my favorite person in the world to spend time with.

My siblings and I pretty much followed your birth order predictions though by middle school, my older sister was an absolute hellion. Always super smart, though. I was the middle child/mama's girl/peacemaker. Little bro was the hyper one who did stuff like dialing 911 from the school modem (back when we had dial-up modems).

1st is very independent. Life of the party.

2nd is loving, peacemaking, rule follower.

3rd is easy going, but spoiled.

#1: Rule follower, academic, leader, can be crazy for attention, cries on a dime when disappointed

#2: Stubborn, sweet, artistic, outdoorsy, sly (he's the one who will flush things and overflow the toilet).

#3: goofy, athletic, loud, likes pretend play, screams for her way

#4: totally chill (he's 1; I don't have much else to say)

#1 - mama's boy (he's 24), used to be painfully shy, had a traumatic couple of years when he was very young, overall well-behaved
#2 - total extrovert, high energy, wants to save the world, strong opinions on everything. vegetarian since age 7, volunteers a lot, was decently behaved though pushed a lot
#3 - high energy, very organized, starting to push, quick to get back on track behavior-wise when called out on it
#4 - high energy, disorganized, still wants lap time, a total pleaser, happy to play with others or on her own

All four are very physically affectionate, all four say I love you each time leaving or hanging up.

DD #1 - 16. Demanding infant. Refused bottle and pacifier. Extremely picky eater. Clingy, collicky baby. Sweet toddler. Early talker. Highly observant. Super sensitive. Slow to warm up to others. Serious-minded. Kind-hearted. Tentative and cautious. Poised and gracious. Doesn't really like excessive hugs, cuddles, affection. Not touchy-freely. Comfortable with one special friend or hanging out one on one.

DS - 14. The most alert newborn. Rarely cried except when he was left alone to sleep. Had to be in the action. Early walker and highly coordinated. Unusually so. Best appetitive in the family. Active. Silly. A loyal friend. To know him is to love him. Looked upon as a leader. Tells DH and me daily that he loves us. Hangs with great group of friends/guys. Loves his buddies.

DD #2 -11. Slept through the night from first night home from hospital and then thereafter. The most chill baby, like a doll. Generally happy and relaxed and seemed grateful for any and all attention. Super tough and unbelievably physically strong. Strong opinions. Never liked to be babied. Engineering mind. Could be described as sunny. Very sentimental. Cries at sad movies. Nearly bereft when DH travels. Takes forever to go to bed becasue she has to kiss and hug us at least twice. Hugs everyone. Doesn't get wrapped up in girl drama. Hangs with boys a lot.

Dd #1 Type A personality, very social, highly motivated academically, athletic, rule follower.

Dd#2 Very sensitive and sweet but so very stubborn, hardest kid to raise, not motivated academically, overly emotional and her world is ruled by the heart.

Dd#3 Very laid back, sporty, goes with the flow, social, extreamly bright but lazy.

I'm OP. This is fascinating! I have three boys. I wonder if the third was a girl - would that child have "reset" to first child characteristics? Interesting....

This describes my BFF's three kids almost perfectly! Hers are boy, girl, boy. All three are awesome kids (teenagers) and they're super close.

#1: Sweet, caring, rule-follower, people-pleaser. Extremely high energy, constantly needs attention. Not particularly cuddly. Great student but has trouble focusing.

#2: BIG emotions, whether it's how much she loves you or how mad she is. Extremely stubborn. Does what she wants regardless of consequences. Loves to push buttons and call your bluff.

#3: Mostly easy going, great at playing by herself. Sweet and silly. Her temper burns hot but extinguishes quickly.

3 girls, ages 7, 3, and 1.

This is us -- our middle child is the hardest of all of them. So stubborn!
