Flyers home?
Sign at school? Community fliers? We want to reach out to more families to come to Orientation and would like to know how to reach more families!! |
| Yes, all of the above. Also, neighborhood listservs, local newspapers and pop up signs (like the ones realtors use) around the neighborhoods. |
| A sign at the school only. This still irritates me. I called in May, thinking I was so on the ball, and we had missed it by two weeks. I never drive by the school because it's all the way back in the neighborhood several miles from us. Grrr. |

| Signs in the neighborhoods. I never drive by the school. I only know when orientation is this year because I'm a teacher and I checked the master list. |
| Reminders on PTA Listserv for current parents to tell their neighbors |
| Local Grocery stores |
| Many of the above. Also flyers at apartment complexes that feed into the school. If you have a substantial population of non-native speakers, flyers should also be written in those languages and arrange for interpreters to be on site for the orientation. |
| I only knew bc I called. |

Post where kids are. Signs by the neighborhood playground, preschools, local library/community center if they are close by and on poles near intersections of neighborhood (where they usually post those leaf pickups).
If it's on the website, make it obvious on the first page, not pages and pages after. If it's a large apt complex, post it there in English and different languages. Posting it at the school is not as effective. |
| Letter to our home from the school dept. We are supposed to register by March 1. |
Same here. Unbelievably lame that there was zero outreach to our community. |
How would they know you have a rising kindergartner? Or do you have an older child too? |
Because you do K registration between Nov and March 1, so you are in the system, and then we just got our orientation letter last week. But I didn't notice that this was an MD schools topic, so not useful, accept that it is a good system. |
I meant except. You don't have to accept that it's a good system if you don't want to/ |
