FCPS Kindergarten IEP ADHD

Anonymous
What kind of services should I ask for going into K? My daughter is very talkative, strong vocabulary, bright, knows alphabet/numbers, but has weak social skills around her peers. Has symptoms of ADHD like not being able to sit still or sit down at all sometimes and inattentive for some school activities. She has an IEP and attends FCPS preschool.
Can you please provide me some info on the services available to ask for in K and what we can realistically get? Examples of others' experiences, etc.

Thanks.

What services does she get in FCPS preschool/what's in the current IEP? Tell us that and we can more easily suggest things to add or drop.

Preferential seating (meaning seating where she is least likely to be distracted, not necessarily right by the teacher)
Frequent breaks (my son would be given little jobs or sent to get a drink of water)
Ability to stand, walk around, lay on the floor or whatever to do his work

I forget what else in kindergarten, but this will give you a start to thinking about things.

This is OP. The current IEP is very brief, just is about engaging in activities she does not like such as coloring and participating in play with peers but in K the demands are somewhat higher so I want to know what to request. If she refuses to participate in certain activities would there be an aide to help 1 hour per day or several hours per day? Not sure how this will work.

Thanks to everybody on here. So much help and support for me is from here and I am so grateful.

Is her iep for ADHD?

We are getting one for my son soon, I hope. Following.

This is OP. The IEP is for developmental delay due to the social/emotional reason.

The chances of a 1:1 aide are very low

Things to ask for:

Specific social support and instruction - e.g. someone to be on the playground x hours a week during recess to facilitate play with classmates

Goals for developing and practicing appropriate social skills -- could take the form of a social skills group run by either a speech pathologist or counselor/social worker

Any other suggestions?

Thank you.
