Virginia Tech or Syracuse University?

If engineering, then VT. Syracuse for everything else.

VT is better than Syracuse, I think. At least, it's much more competitive. Although Syracuse is in NY, which is better than Virginia. Other than for tech, I think Syracuse will be way more fun. But if it's for tech, I think VT is too much better to even consider Syracuse.

Syracuse is better know nationally, but Virginia Tech probably has a better reputation in the mid-Atlantic. Worth thinking about if your child does not intend to stay in the area.

On the one hand, Blacksburg is really tiny and in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, Syracuse is pretty bleak.

Syracuse is a school on the downswing. It is less prestigious than it was 20 years ago, and in 20 years it will be less prestigious than it is now. VT is a good solid choice.

Nationally VT is ranked 70, Syracuse is ranked 61. VT's reputation has been in free fall since the shootings, beheading, and 13yo killing by students.

Been to Blacksburg multiple times. It is a beautiful school. Many different majors lots of resources for grad students

One note freshman classes are big. Little disappointed in how big and how little teacher support for freshman. Calc is basically teach yourself at large collection of pcs in local shopping center with student assistants helping. If your kids is not self directed he could get lost easily a vt. People say class sizes he Mchenry better for junior and senior courses I sure hope so.

Syracuse. My husband is a graduate and our nephew loves the school. Great reputation.

Uh, VT is not more competitive than Syracuse.
SU is better known nationally too (although people know about VT for all the wrong reasons--shooting, etc.)

I think it depends on the major too.
