Want good, professional family photographer

Anonymous
I'd love some recommendations for a good family photographer. Definitely lifestyle, natural...no studios, props, or fields in weird golden light.

I'm noticing in looking through Google/Yelp/Facebook that there are a lot of bad photographers out there. We have a DSLR and are quite good at using it. We take lots of family pictures ourselves and have so many pictures of our son. But we'd like a professional for his one year pictures. Not a novice who happens to have a DSLR.

Thanks.

Did you do a search? Location?

Arlington/Alexandria. But it seems most photographers cover DC and NoVa. I've been searching for hours. But I'd like some first hand recommendations for a good one!

Rebecca Drobis. Her work has been in the Washington Post. I've worked with three different photographers and her picture have been the best.

I know! But she's booked through the fall!

We've always used John Waire at The Wairehouse - he is awesome and laid back, and he understands kids since he has three of his own. Reasonable rates for how many pictures you get (we've gotten the digital images to over 200 each session). Good luck!

David Betts from Metropolitan Photog Studio on Capitol Hill.

He gets races from MOTH. I used him for my wedding and ALL the photos are spectacular.

Just had my first so will be calling him for family photos shortly.

We had a great experience with Rashmi Pappu, who works out of Old Town Alexandria. Check out her portfolio on line: http://www.rashmipappu.com/

juliekubal.com is a family photographer and has a very documentary/lifestyle focus.

BTW, OP, I'm so curious about your statement "weird golden light." That sunrise/sunset light is a photographer's dream!!

^op here. With "weird golden light" I mean those ethereal photos in a field, with an added filter to showcase the light. We'd prefer bright colors in a garden.

Mary Kate McKenna. We used her for our wedding and many friends did also. Not cheap, but you'll love her photos.
